One of the movie theatres in town has started offering an adults-only theatre as one of the viewing options. They even serve alcohol. There are 8 theatres in the building all displaying different movies, but one of the 8 does not allow anyone under 18 to enter.
Of course people with children had an absolute uproar over this. Because apparently the other 7 theatres weren't enough of a monopoly for them.
I for one think this is an exceptional business model.
Every person alive has endured a baby crying, children talking through a whole movie, or kids throwing popcorn, and it does ruin the movie.
There is of course no guarantee that adults are any more respectful than babies but one can dream.
I would be the first to pay extra to eat at a restaurant that doesn't allow toddlers. I would LOVE to see more adult-only weddings, adult-only shopping malls, even an adult-only grocery store!
HOW RUDE one might say.
But in your life have you ever seen a toddler who actually wanted to, or enjoyed, being inside an adult clothing store and standing around while Mom tries things on? Do toddlers enjoy walking down endless aisles of food? Do toddlers have any appreciation whatsoever of a steakhouse with no kids menu? NO.
The kids do not want to be anywhere near there.
The people around them do not want them to be anywhere near there.
The only people who seem not to comprehend this are the parents. Dragging reluctant children to social functions and public places that have no entertainment value for children. You're benefiting no one but yourself.
In a small town you probably would lose too many potential customers to start an establishment with restricting rules but in a city of one million people there's got to be a market for it. You have my business anyway.
