There are three types of people in the world,
People who choose to have children
People who physically cannot have children
People who choose not to have children
Sometimes it's very hard for the people in the first two categories to understand why someone would make the decision not to.
I'll be the first person to tell a Breeder why I hate children, but I'm always afraid of conversations about kids with a person who does not have the physical ability to reproduce.
I'm one of three sisters, two of us are fertile but choose not to have children, and the oldest of us underwent surgery to remove a tumor that is expected to have destroyed her chances of carrying a baby, and she's the only one who wants one. Life isn't always fair.
How do you explain to your sister who is doing everything in her power to become pregnant, that you plan not to use your ability? It takes a stronger person than me, so I simply don't broach the subject with her.
What people don't see is that the childfree-by-choice are often just as baffled by the decision TO have kids.
But that doesn't mean we don't empathize.
Anything in life that you lose your choice to control is downright frustrating and you have the right to be mad.
I have no intention of ever buying a minivan but if the Supreme Court decided just me, out of thousands of people, cannot legally own one, I would be really annoyed.
We take for granted our right to choose. Everyone needs to stop and respect it regardless of what others are doing with their choice.
Recognize how lucky you are that you live in a place where women are worth more than their reproductive organs, where you are allowed to have a career, where birth control is legal and no one can decide whether you terminate your pregnancy but you.
You are also extremely lucky that if you become pregnant you are allowed to keep it.
If you were born in One-Child-Policy-China you would legally HAVE to abort your second baby.
Every woman alive who has the choice, needs to spend more time appreciating it. We are the lucky ones.
